At the park

I am currently sitting in the middle of the park, between Neely Hall and Boomer Hall. It's 6.55pm on a Sunday afternoon and it's 4th of July. What a great way to start a blog huh?

I am going to differentiate here and there about my University in Malaysia and the one that I am in right now.

Lectures

America -- They invite political leaders, Professors, Journalist and many other people for the past one week. They only spend 45 minutes for lectures and the remaining for Q&A. Very systematic.

Malaysia -- Lectures are being held from 8 till 4pm which is pretty normal for an American student (I think). (I am on a study program so lectures might be shorter so that we can do some other activities). Q&A session are not being held that much. Topic relating to the government are considered as a sensitive issues. However I do believe that some of the lectures would like to debate about the countries situation.

University Facilities

America -- Recreational center, they have two floors of running track. Swimming pool, gym at every corner of the Rec Center, 4 or 5 Squash / Racket Ball court. Student center includes Starbucks, McDonalds, Food Court, Book Store, Bowling Alley, Couple of pool table.

Malaysia -- Reading room, Mass Communication Room (small room for students to relax). A reasonably access of public transportation.

Universities environment

America -- Lot of trees. Lake which is a couple of miles away from the Dorms which is in a walking distance. Mainly very green.

Malaysia -- In a city. Near shop lots. Traffic jam in front of the University. Very busy and loud.

Universities Library

America -- Was it 5 floors? They have 3 million books. One level only for maps.

Malaysia -- A couple thousands of books and only one floor. They are still improving which is good and actually had just been remodeled.

Conclusion;

What I'm doing right now may not be the right thing to do. Comparing between one university to another university is wrong. But try to understand my situation here. Some of the University in Malaysia are only to gain money and it frustrates me because I am paying a lot of money for my education but the facilities in the Universities does not exceed my expectation. The school library may be new in my country but there isn't a lot of books.

Some of the Malaysian institution are doing a tremendous job keeping themselves up to date and often times doing their best to improve the Universities.

But as you can see with the facilities, lectures and environment that some of the American University are in right now, they are fare ahead of us. We can be like them someday but I do believe that we need to work hard. We also need to change the way we learn. We can't hide certain issues. Malaysian Universities need to be open towards the development of education. Malaysian have a long way to go and if we want to be the best, the best example right now is to look at America.

Cheers.

Home Alone

While I am watching Home Alone at the Neely Hall just opposite of the Boomer Hall, I can start my blog by telling you all about how I came here, about what food they serve on the plane, how many ours I transit, who did I travel with, what airline I travel with, who I was sitting next to, what movie was being played on the plane and etc.

To make it easier, please click here to find more information on that http://www.heiwassab.blogspot.com/. My friend Sabina created a great blog on the New Media program. Check it out.

By me doing this, it promotes other participants blogs from this program.

Before I go any further let me extend my apology to all of you. My grammar or English is not that any good but I am doing my best to learn as much English as possible. Not only that what ever it is that I am writing in this blog may not go well with you. Some of the information that I will be posting in this blog may have facts and also most probably might be my own personal point of view. So again forgive me if my English is not that any good and forgive me if some of the comments here may offend you.

Most importantly I will do my best to make sure that this blog is fun!!!

That's all for my introduction.

Cheers.
